Little Flower Penny Dinners
Famine Food Bank
Outdoor Activation
When the Great Famine ravaged Ireland, it resulted in a loss of over 25% of the entire population. To commemorate this devastation, The Famine Memorial statue was created:
Six haunting, starving figures and a dog, all walking in search of food.
It’s a highly-respected, solemn site that’s been visited by foreign dignitaries and royalty alike.
To highlight how hunger is still a problem in Ireland, Little Flower Penny Dinners placed the ultimate symbol of modern hunger - a food bank installation, in a location that people definitely couldn’t ignore…
In front of the Famine Memorial.
Instead of trudging in despair along the banks of the River Liffey, the six emaciated figures walk towards the Famine Food Bank for help. This symbolises the daily journey thousands of hungry people make to food banks and charities like Little Flower all over the country. Every day.
